Galliford Try Building London Southeast & Commercial are are looking for an experienced Design Manager to support the design team based out of Uxbridge. The role is predominantly site‑based, but during tenders the position will occasionally involve travel to the Uxbridge office.
What you will be doing- Manage the full process of designing solutions for projects to meet or exceed customer requirements and framework deliverables.
- Identify contractual, financial, technical and operational risks, pursue value‑engineering opportunities and maximise gross profit on contracts while maintaining customer satisfaction.
- Support the safe, timely and quality delivery of the pipeline of contracts.
- Lead the appointment of design and associated consultants, ensuring contractual requirements are captured and deliverables are clearly defined using tools such as the IRS, MIDP/Design Responsibility Matrix, Deliverables and Scope of Services.
- Review and appraise fee proposals from consultants. Manage and monitor consultant performance, encouraging a collaborative approach to robust, coordinated designs on time and to budget. Lead KPI assessment and production of progress reports.
- Support and manage the development of CDP packages to ensure compliance and full coordination.
- Assess consultants in line with CDM 2015 requirements and ensure all obligations are met; designs should fully consider health, safety and buildability.
- Own and manage all design processes and information flow on Design & Build and heavy CDP contracts to meet employer requirements, contractor proposals and contract conditions within agreed programme constraints using our CDE. Align design outputs to each relevant RIBA stage.
- Experience in new build and refurbishment across commercial, residential, mixed‑use, hotel, city‑centre developments, traditional and D^B contracts, including all building elements (sub‑structure, frame, envelope, internal trades, MMC).
- Experience managing designers and other consultants.
- Proven ability to deliver design for projects on time, to budget, to quality standards and with high customer satisfaction.
- Computer‑literacy and commercial awareness.
- Excellent time management and multi‑tasking ability.
- Decision‑making within authority and leadership as a team member.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on customer satisfaction.

- Construction or design related HNC, HND or degree.
- Membership of a professional body (CIOB, RIBA, RICS).
