BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of road maintenance and management services, proudly responsible for the upkeep and enhancement of Scotland’s vital trunk road network, including bridges and key infrastructure. We operate across some of the most scenic and challenging terrain in the UK.
Since 2000, BEAR Scotland has been involved in five generations of Transport Scotland Trunk Road Operating Company contracts and is currently responsible for approximately 60% of Scotland’s trunk road network, including the North West and South East Trunk Road Units.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Landscape Operative to join our established team, based at our Head Office in Perth. Reporting to the Landscape Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of landscaping, environmental, and maintenance activities across the network.
Please note that this role will involve regular travel and working away from home, due to the geographical area covered by the team.
Key Responsibilities- Grass cutting and strimming
- Weed control on roads, verges, embankments, and central reservations
- Application of herbicides
- Tree and shrub maintenance
- Assisting with planting activities
- Installing and maintaining 12D Traffic Management layouts
- Cyclical maintenance of structures
- Litter picking
- Operating power tools, small plant, and machinery
- Ensuring the health and safety of the public, colleagues, and yourself at all times
- Supporting winter maintenance activities, including snow and ice clearance, gritter and plough set-up, and salt spreading
- Undertaking any other duties as required to support the team
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Relevant tickets for plant operation, traffic management, and health & safety (preferred)
- Good awareness of health & safety procedures
- Experience operating small plant and machinery
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
