Position Description

This position is responsible for carrying out daily operations & maintenance tasks associated with pipeline activities and to assist with operations and maintenance of Gulf South’s facilities located in the Petal, MS area. It involves environmental health & safety and reliability for natural gas transmission through the pipeline system. Specific duties include reading rectifiers, valve inspection and maintenance, tank gauging, pipeline locating, pipeline patrolling, gas sampling, one‑calls, preventive pipeline maintenance and operations related to meter station, valve site and right‑of‑way maintenance, gas quality monitoring, and assisting with construction and repairs of pipelines and associated facilities.

The position may also require assistance at nearby Forrest or Black Creek Compressor Stations, where the employee will be trained and expected to operate and assist. Responsibilities also include recognition and reporting of abnormal operating conditions, accident and near‑miss reporting, and emergency response (HAZWOPER). The role requires compliance with DOT, industry standards, manufacturer, and company guidelines related to facility equipment and appurtenances.

The candidate will respond to call‑outs as part of the on‑call rotation for pipeline operations and emergency response. The successful candidate must live within 30 miles of the Petal Operations office.

Required Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • 1 to 5 years of gas pipeline operations and maintenance experience or equivalent petrochemical/oil industry experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, problem‑solving skills, and a history of safe work.
  • Ability to work outside in hot, cold, muddy, and wet environments and to stand for long periods of time and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to utilize a PC and manage a filing system.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for a minimum of 50 feet.
  • Ability to operate valve control wheels with a minimum of 50 turns.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
  • 3 (plus) years of gas pipeline operations and maintenance experience
  • Understanding of DOT 192 regulations
  • Natural gas compressor maintenance experience
Required Education
  • High School Diploma
Preferred Education
  • Associate Degree
