Position Summary

The Controller position at Luminary Brands will not only lead the day-to-day operations of the accounting team but will also be a financial resource for all parts of the organization. This role will drive both the periodic compliance, analysis, and reporting and the necessary ad‑hoc reporting that drives the direction and decision making of the company. This is an impactful role that partners with members of all teams within the organization to achieve common goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage month‑end close, deliver accurate and timely financial statements, and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Build and maintain the company’s rolling forecast, annual budget, and long‑range financial model; own the forecasting calendar and deliverables.
  • Drive variance analysis. Work with budget owners to both ascertain and communicate the real‑world drivers behind financial results.
  • Partner with Ops and Marketing to translate business drivers (sell‑through, pricing, promotions, inventory, COGS) into forecast inputs and scenarios.
  • Develop scenario and sensitivity models.
  • Own cash flow forecasting and short‑term liquidity planning; coordinate with treasury/bank when needed.
  • Supervise and develop accounting team. Provide coaching and mentorship in order to maximize the potential of human capital.
  • Manage external review and provide tax support. Coordinate with external advisors.
  • Contribute to the development of KPIs dashboards and monthly reporting packages for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ad ad‑hoc reporting, as deemed appropriate.
What success looks like (KPIs / deliverables)
  • Timely close coupled with decision‑ready reporting delivered to leadership each month or as needed.
  • Relevant internal financial reporting and support that informs and guides the day‑to‑day operations of all parts of the organization.
  • Forecast accuracy improvement (e.g., reduce forecasting error % for top‑line and gross margin).
  • Robust analytical support provided for key business decisions.
  • Accurate cash forecasting and visibility into working capital.
  • Clean external review with no material adjustments and documented controls.
  • Scalable forecasting process (reduced manual work / automation gains).
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a controllership or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Demonstrated FP&A / forecasting experience – ownership of rolling forecasts and annual budgets.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (US GAAP). Experience with external audits/reviews and tax support.
  • Proven team leadership and stakeholder management (cross‑functional).
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills and experience with financial modeling best practices.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication – able to present complex results succinctly to executives.
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have
  • CPA, CMA or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in consumer products / retail / e‑commerce / marketplace businesses.
  • Experience with Net Suite or comparable ERPs.
