, the Lead Hand Labourer is a working leader responsible for coordinating and supporting a small team to achieve daily construction objectives safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

This role bridges frontline execution and site leadership, ensuring clear direction, strong team performance, and alignment with project expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day direction to crew members to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Assign tasks, coordinate resources, and monitor workflow
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project plans
  • Support team performance by providing guidance, coaching, and feedback
  • Address minor performance or behavioral issues and escape as needed
Execution & Oversight
  • Actively participate in labour tasks while overseeing team output
  • Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy
  • Identify and address issues, delays, or rework requirements
  • Ensure all processes and site procedures are followed consistently
Communication & Reporting
  • Maintain clear communication between crew and site leadership
  • Report progress, challenges, and resource needs to supervisors
  • Maintain site logs, daily reports, and production records as required
  • Support coordination across trades and functions on site
Safety & Compliance
  • Lead by example in promoting a safety-first culture
  • Ensure team compliance with all safety policies and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct hazard assessments and address risks proactively
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
Team Development
  • Support onboarding and training of new or less experienced workers
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to build team capability

Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a labour or skilled trade role
  • Previous leadership or Lead Hand experience preferred
  • Experience in an ICI construction environment is an asset
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and site practices
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily on active construction sites, including both indoor and outdoor environments, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Standard working hours are typically Monday to Friday; however, hours may vary based on project requirements, timelines, and site demands, including occasional overtime
  • The role requires frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, as well as prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing
  • Regular use of hand and power tools, construction equipment, ladders, and scaffolding is required
  • Exposure to construction-related hazards such as noise, dust, debris, moving equipment, and uneven surfaces is expected; strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
  • Work may involve tasks at heights or in confined spaces, requiring strong situational awareness and compliance with safety standards
  • Requires the ability to balance physical work demands with supervisory responsibilities, including coordinating team activities and maintaining awareness of overall site conditions
  • The role involves moderate to high time pressures related to daily productivity targets, coordination of crew activities, and project deadlines
  • Frequent interaction with team members, supervisors, and other trades requires consistent communication and a high level of professionalism
