Our Medicine Division at North West Anglia Foundation Trust is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our friendly and supportive team. You will be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team of Stroke Consultants delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient stroke services across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
We are a leading hub of innovations in precision stroke medicine implementing new technologies such as Clopidogrel resistance testing, multimodule point-of-care ultrasound in neurology, neurointensive care and stroke medicine, pre-hospital stroke video triage, mobile stroke unit.
We also run highly specialised services including young stroke and spasticity services and much more.
At both NWAFT and CUH, we place a strong emphasis on innovation and research. Through this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in research initiatives and service improvement projects aligned with national priorities and local commissioning needs. You will also contribute to the training and development of your colleagues doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the jobThis post is offered as 10 PAs, including 1:5 weekend daytime work (9am-5pm), and on call working. Please see the attached job Description document for more details. Part time applicants will be considered.
This role will be working closely with our colleagues within the ICS; bringing innovative collaboration between North West Anglia and Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trusts, to enhance stroke care across the region by combining clinical expertise, shared learning, and best practice and contribute to service development and clinical governance.
You will play a key role in delivering emergency and acute stroke care, including thrombolysis, thrombectomy and early rehabilitation, as well as supporting outpatient services for stroke and TIA patients. You may also work with community teams such as the Early Supported Discharge service, and provide specialist advice to colleagues across other specialties.
As a Stroke Consultant, you will bring your expertise in managing thrombolysis, thrombectomy referrals, Emergency TIA service, ward rounds, inpatient referrals, and MDT meetings, as per an internal rota.
You must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or possess equivalent experience). We will provide suitable office accommodation, secretarial support, and IT access.

Clinical Care Responsibilities
You will support the delivery of stroke services to the populations of Greater Peterborough and Southwest Lincolnshire in partnership with the current team of consultants. Your primary base will be Peterborough City Hospital, working within the Hyperacute Stroke Unit and Acute Stroke Units, with the potential for cross-site work at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in the Acute Rehabilitation Stroke Unit.
The Stroke Consultants and Stroke Specialty Doctors team consists of twelve specialists who provide the following services:
Emergency stroke care, including pre-hospital and hospital emergency and hyperacute care
TIA emergency service, general and specialized out-patient stroke service
You will work closely with the established consultants to ensure the equitable delivery of stroke services across the Trust. This role will involve collaborative working and mutual cover for annual and study leave.
Research
Our Acute Stroke Centre (ASC) is highly engaged in research across all areas of stroke medicine, supported by a dedicated team of research nurses.
You will have the opportunity to play an active role in high-quality national and international research projects, while also being encouraged to innovate, design, and lead your own home-grown research initiatives.
As a globally recognised leader, we are at the forefront of developing, implementing, and training in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in neurology, neuro-intensive care and stroke medicine, creating innovative multimodal POCUS programs.
