PRHC has a busy Emergency Department which receives approximately 77,000 visits per year of all age groups and variable acuity.

Our group is very collegial with excellent clinical support for each other, including no single coverage times in the department. We have monthly interprofessional simulations and departmental educational rounds. We also organize and host an annual Kawartha Emergency Medicine conference.

We are affiliated with Queen’s University and are an educational site for the CCFP (EM) residents and the Queens CCFP residency program based in Peterborough.

PRHC has been designated as a Level III Trauma Centre site and has a high-volume cardiac catheterization laboratory that performs diagnostic and interventional procedures, including a 24/7 EMS bypass Code STEMI system. We have 24-hour emergency service to CT scans and pediatrics on call.

As a Moonlighting Resident you will have excellent support from specialty colleagues.

Supervision:
As a Moonlighting Resident:

• You will provide Emergency Medicine Care for patients in the PRHC emergency department, within the scope of your training, and within the scope of services indicated by the registration issued by the College

• You will be assigned your own shifts and be expected to provide emergency care similar to that provided by physicians in our department. A PRHC staff Emergency physician present in the Emergency Department will be MRP for each of your patients

• You will not be scheduled for any midnight shifts, nor shall you pick up any call shifts. Your sole responsibility will be the care of patients in the emergency department.

Min Requirement:
Qualifications

• PGY4 or PGY5 residents currently enrolled in a FRCPC EM program in an Ontario medical school and in good standing

• Restricted Registration license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario

• Appropriate CMPA coverage

Additional Requirement:
Must have successfully completed training in Advanced

Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
