What You’ll Be Doing

As an employee of the Board, you join a community dedicated to excellence in Catholic Education. You work in collaboration with the teacher to plan and implement the Kindergarten programme and maintain a healthy physical, emotional and social learning environment. Registered Early Childhood Educators also may continue appropriate supervision and programming for students in an extended day programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support efforts to integrate faith in all areas of the curriculum, including delivery of the Religion programme and participation in faith‑based activities and liturgies.
  • Collaborate with teachers in observing, monitoring and assessing the progress and development of children in Kindergarten and communicating with families.
  • Partner with the teacher to plan and implement developmentally‑appropriate, student‑interest‑driven play‑based programming to reach the Four Frames of Learning:
    Belonging and Contributing, Self‑Regulation and Well‑Being, Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours, and Problem Solving and Innovating.
  • Assist children in becoming independent with washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities.
  • Guide students to be independent with toileting and assist when they experience issues.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, Welcome to Kindergarten Night and other professional development activities.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Board Policy and Administration Regulations; AP‑HS‑401 Administration of Medication and/or Special Services.
  • Provide age‑appropriate programming for groups of students as part of an extended day programme, which may include
    • Provision of supervision.
    • Providing direction to assistant if present.
    • Ensuring a healthy and safe environment for students, with diverse activities to engage students and build social competence, emotional maturity, literacy, numeracy and physical skills.
    • Maintaining all appropriate records for students (e.g. attendance, health issues, etc.).
    • Setting up the classroom (e.g. display, upkeep, organisation of materials, etc.).
    • Maintaining a hygienic/safe environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring To This Position
  • Requires O.S.S.D. (plus Early Childhood Education Diploma) with a minimum of six months experience in an educational setting.
  • Proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Knowledge of current Ministry of Education Kindergarten Programme.
  • Excellent interpersonal qualities and ability to work as a team.
  • Experience planning and implementing developmentally‑appropriate programmes.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services.
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, carrying, extended periods of walking or standing.
  • Proven ability to deal with difficult situations and to take appropriate action in stressful or emergency situations.
