Environmental​/Water Resources Engineering - Summer Student

This student position will be an integral part of the City’s implementation of our Stormwater Quality Master Plan and Watershed Planning initiatives. The position offers an opportunity to apply academic studies with meaningful hands-on experience. Students can make a valuable contribution to the protection and enhancement of the City’s water resources, while applying their knowledge and gaining valuable experience in their career.

The position will assist the Stormwater Management Group of the City of Peterborough’s Infrastructure Management Division.

The duties may include:

• Compliance monitoring and inspection of the City’s existing stormwater management (SWM) infrastructure, including surveying, water quality monitoring and flow/level monitoring.
• Support the contract administrator during SWM facility retrofit and maintenance projects.
• Preparation of various soil and sediment volume drawings, plans, and calculations in support of the City’s annual SWM Facility Maintenance and Monitoring Program.
• Support the advancement of the City’s Stormwater Subsidy Program and overall SWM education initiatives in the Community.
• Respond to and document sewer use by-law compliance issues; and
• Assist in the collection, maintenance and analysis of various forms of watershed monitoring data, including the inspection and documentation of the City’s Natural Assets.

The qualified candidate will be working towards a degree or diploma in Environmental Engineering/Science or Civil engineering with a focus in Water Resources. The candidate will have access to a reliable vehicle and possess a G license. Must be able to work independently and be comfortable working in various types of weather. Previous experience with ESRI Products, AutoCAD, Hydrologic/Hydraulic Modeling software, inspection and surveying would be considered an asset.

$24.90/Hour
