D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of an Inspector (Structural) in the Construction Administration and Inspection Services Department.
Key Responsibilities- Provide on-site inspection of construction work related to structural, municipal infrastructure and subdivision projects.
- Liaise and coordinate with the client, public, agencies, Designer, and Contractor.
- Document the progress of construction work.
- Gather pertinent information as per project documents.
- Review and understand contract documents including project drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Track quantities for payment purposes.
- Provide information to the Project Manager/Contract Administrator for invoicing/project tracking purposes.
- Perform survey work on construction sites and roadways.
- Calculate quantity take-offs for tenders.
- Maintain detailed daily diary/records of all construction site activities by completing Site Visit Reports (SVRs).
- Import fieldwork to AutoCAD and create base plan for design.
- Create and/or revise AutoCAD 3D municipal drawings from base plan and/or from as-built information.
- Ensure that timelines are met for all key deliverables.
- Minimum three (3) year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- OACETT Certification preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience providing the essential duties and responsibilities as noted.
- Previous experience in structural design or inspection of bridges, culverts, or dams is preferred.
- Valid G Driver’s License.
- Knowledge in the use of various survey equipment/techniques including Total Station, GPS, and laser level.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, MS Project, Bluebeam, Adobe, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficient in intermediate applications of design software – AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
- Solid knowledge of other legislation and regulations related to department functions.
- General knowledge of principles and practices of contract administration and inspection including the Construction Act.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent work ethic and ability to work on multiple projects or issues simultaneously.
- Excellent time management skills to meet project timelines.
- Ability to travel with overnight stays for projects throughout the work week.
