Manufacturing Engineering Specialist

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on‑power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems.

Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Specialist is responsible for the estimating and execution of a broad range of manufacturing projects from commercial and custom manufactured parts to sophisticated nuclear equipment.

Your Day to Day
  • This is an intermediate level position (8 - 10+ years experience). The position would have responsibility to independently plan and execute jobs of significant scope and complexity. This position would also support more senior ME’s by independently completing significant scope of very large, complex projects.
  • This position is responsible for creating detailed cost estimates for supply/manufacturing jobs of large scope and complexity. This includes planning the manufacturing process and make/buy strategies, obtaining vendor pricing for purchased items, and estimating all in‑house labour activities. Estimating includes schedule creation. This position is responsible for planning work and writing work packages to communicate to the Manufacturing Shop to get hands on work done.

    This position has accountability for the results of hands‑on work without having authority over those doing the work. This can be challenging to manage and requires good communication skills to be successful as they will be the first point of contact to resolve any problems in assembly or testing in the shop.
