About the role:
In the Senior Mechanical Engineering role, you will be responsible for designing mechanical systems and components for both the traditional nuclear market and new projects aimed at developing nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems. You will report to the Manager, Material Handling Engineering, and be located at one of our facilities in Peterborough, Burlington, or Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Employees working in hybrid roles are expected to work on-site at the Peterborough, Burlington, or Kitchener office two days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for complex electro-mechanical first of a kind toolingAssemble and test custom equipment through the design evolution from prototype to finished productHelp develop test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specificationsHelp operate the final tooling system in the customer facilitiesProvide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering teamPerform both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems or components against applicable codes & standardsPrepare concise design reports and technical specifications.Promote innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systemsCollaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialistsSupport resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems or componentsQualifications:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering and working towards obtaining their Licenced with the Professional Engineers of Ontario5+ years of relevant experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes.Experience in the design/building of custom equipment typically: steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systemsExperience working within 3D CAD systemsExperience with manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques.Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.Strong interpersonal skills, experience working in a team environmentWe are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $86,800 to $108,500 per year.
