As a Cartographic Analytical Technician, you'll play a meaningful role transforming geospatial data into accurate, accessible mapping and analytical products that support Geospatial Ontario and inform decision making across the OPS.
About the jobThis role creates and delivers cartographic solutions by analyzing and processing spatial data to produce accurate, fit for purpose map products. It provides technical advice and guidance to project teams, clients, and stakeholders on the development and use of cartographic products and geomatics data. The position assesses and evaluates project deliverables to ensure quality and adherence to established standards, assists project leads with project planning and reporting, and contributes to the development and continuous improvement of geospatial processes and supporting documentation.
Whatyou bring to the team Geospatial & Cartographic Technical Skills
- Intermediate cartographic design skills and GIS analytical techniques
- Geospatial and graphic design software to produce customized, traditional and dynamic map products
- Ability to manipulate spatial data for creation, integration, enhancement, and advanced analysis
- Knowledge of scripting and programming languages to support GIS workflows and automation
- Quality control and quality assurance principles and practices to ensure high‑quality deliverables
- Information management principles related to data quality, data use, and the value of data information
- Principles related to effective information access, privacy and copyright protection and information security
- The ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team to meet tight deadlines across multiple projects with changing priorities
- Good written and verbal communication skills to communicate technical issues and cartographic solutions using clear language
- Analyze, process, and manage geospatial data to develop required solutions and map products
- Troubleshoot technical and process issues and develop procedures
- Research and problem‑solve to troubleshoot technical and process problems
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities while meeting deadlines and performance targets
- Experience with geomatics software, and scripting or programming languages to conduct data analysis
