The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CCIL Laboratory Technician to join our Ontario-based materials testing laboratory. This full-time, permanent position is well suited for a technician with hands-on experience in laboratory testing of asphalt, aggregate, soils, and concrete
, who is committed to quality, accuracy, and safety.

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor working closely with Project Managers, the successful candidate will perform quality control and quality assurance testing in accordance with CCIL, ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, OPSS, and MTO standards
. This role is essential in supporting project delivery, maintaining laboratory accreditation, and ensuring audit readiness.

Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing & Quality Control
  • Perform laboratory testing on asphalt, aggregate, soils, and concrete in accordance with CCIL, ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, OPSS, and MTO standards.
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance testing under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor and Project Managers.
  • Accurately complete test worksheets, calculations, and electronic data entry to ensure traceable, defensible results.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of laboratory test reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Operate laboratory equipment safely and correctly in accordance with established procedures and training.
Laboratory Operations & Quality Systems
  • Assist with routine calibration, verification, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in accordance with Health & Safety and quality management system requirements.
  • Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality management system protocols.
  • Support CCIL audit activities through proper documentation, record-keeping, and laboratory housekeeping.
  • Communicate test results, issues, or non-conformances to the Laboratory Supervisor in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with inventory management of laboratory supplies and consumables.
  • Stay current with updates to testing methods, standards, and procedures relevant to assigned disciplines.
  • Adhere to all company, laboratory, and regulatory Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required in support of laboratory operations.
Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of experience in a construction materials testing laboratory, with exposure to asphalt, aggregate, soils, and/or concrete testing.
  • Strong familiarity with CCIL testing procedures is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, OPSS, and MTO standards related to materials testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed procedures with a high level of accuracy and documentation quality.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a production laboratory environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
Certifications
  • CCIL certification in Asphalt, Aggregate, Soils, and/or Concrete Testing is considered an asset.
  • Candidates who are eligible for, or actively working toward, CCIL certification will be considered.
