AECOM is seeking Archaeology Field Technician positions (Levels 1–4) based in London, Barrie, Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Mississauga, or Hamilton. These are union‑ized positions under the collective agreement with LiUNA.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct archaeological fieldwork under the guidance of a field supervisor.
- Identify and recover Indigenous and Euro‑Canadian artifacts.
- Follow Health and Safety protocols and adhere to all AECOM procedures.
- Travel extensively across Ontario for extended periods.
- Take on a junior leadership role during field operations.
- Assist the Field Supervisor with technical aspects of fieldwork.
- Contribute to the training of new team members.
- Set an example for teammates and undertake additional tasks as assigned by field supervisors or management.
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma.
- For Level II and above, previous relevant work experience is required.
- Must be able to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork (lift up to 40 lbs and perform repetitive movements).
- Effective and professional communication with the Field Supervisor regarding site information, issues, and concerns.
- Attendance at work in a timely manner, prepared for all weather conditions with appropriate gear.
- Reliable transportation to and from assigned office or designated project meet‑spot.
- Sensitivity and awareness of Indigenous culture and people.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in archaeology or anthropology.
- Proven ability to recognize and collect cultural material in a controlled manner.
- Physical ability and care when conducting excavations.
- Effective teamwork skills.
- Support of Field Supervisor with technical aspects of archaeology and team leadership.
- Knowledge of MCM Standards & Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists.
Compensation and Level Information:
- Under the Collective Agreement between AECOM and LiUNA, compensation for Archaeology Field Technician Levels I–IV for the 2025 field season will be between $24.48 and $29.44.
- Level assignment is based on experience, education, professional designations/licenses, and other relevant factors.
- AECOM and LiUNA will renegotiate their Collective Agreement in 2026.
