Buddhist Chaplain – HMP Peterborough
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Chaplaincy team at HMP Peterborough as a Buddhist Chaplain
, providing spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and faith-based support to residents, staff, and their families.
The successful candidate will be a committed and practising Buddhist with a strong understanding of Buddhist teachings, philosophy, and rituals. You will play a vital role in supporting the spiritual well-being of those in custody, delivering compassionate pastoral care in line with PSI 51 on Pastoral Care
.
You will be confident in communicating in English
, have relevant experience within a faith or pastoral setting, and hold endorsement from the Prison Service Buddhist Faith Adviser (evidence required prior to appointment).

- Provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and faith-based support to prisoners, staff, and their families.
- Lead worship, prayer sessions, study groups, and faith-specific programmes.
- Support and mentor chaplains and volunteers, ensuring chaplaincy services are accessible at all times.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan religious events, maintain worship facilities, and manage faith materials.
- Build and maintain links with local faith communities and contribute to staff faith awareness training.
- Assist with policy development, data reporting, and continuous improvement of chaplaincy services.

The Ideal Candidate- A committed and practising Buddhist with a strong understanding of Buddhist teachings, philosophy, and rituals.
- Experienced in providing pastoral care within a faith or community setting.
- Endorsed by the Prison Service Buddhist Faith Adviser (evidence required prior to appointment).
- Confident in communicating in English

, with a professional and caring approach. - Committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment while upholding high standards of service.
- Successful candidates will need to complete Enhanced Level 2 & CTC checks (processed on-site).
- £2,988 (pro-rata)
- Part-time: 5 hours per week
