Part-Time Shelter Counsellor at YWCA

Support women fleeing violence as a part-time Shelter Counsellor at YWCA Peterborough Haliburton. This important role includes crisis intervention and developing safety plans.

In this contract position, you will provide essential support for women and their dependents affected by violence. Your primary focus will be on crisis counselling, safety planning, and advocacy within a supportive community environment. Collaboration with Shelter Managers is crucial to meet the required outcomes and ensure a safe haven for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide immediate support during crises via hotline

• Create safety plans with clients for ongoing protection

• Advocate for women's health and well-being

• Conduct assessments to determine risk levels

• Guide clients in accessing community resources

Requirements:

• Post-secondary qualification and minimum 2 years relevant experience

• Knowledge of anti-oppressive and harm reduction principles

• Strong skills in crisis intervention and de-escalation

• Experience working in diverse and multicultural settings

• Clear vulnerable sector CPIC required
