Position: Community Wellness Coordinator )

The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area.

NFC is an inclusive organization, encouraging applications from qualified candidates, including persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities. Objectives

To foster improvements in the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals, and their families through culture-based programming and one-to-one support.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individuals with one-to-one and participate-based support services including access to services related to reducing family violence, advocacy, systems navigation, and referrals
  • Initiate and participate in case conferences, goal setting, case management processes, and make referrals to internal or external supports as appropriate
  • Develop healing and wellness plans with service users and update progress as needed
  • Develop and implement culture-based wellness program services
  • Promote awareness and ensuring program access through a variety of outreach efforts and promotional activities within the community
  • Promote attitudes and behaviours within the community that will improve overall health
  • Provide, educational sessions, life skills training, community events, and workshops that focus on health promotion, illness prevention and, family violence prevention
  • Establish and maintain working relationships and partnerships with local health and wellness agencies, organizations, and other intervention related service providers
  • Maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date service user files, program records and statistics ensuring the maintenance of a secure and confidential filing system
Qualifications
  • 2 years post‑secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, or related field
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience with health and social services
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with a strong understanding of the impacts of trauma
  • Outstanding communication, analytical, problem‑solving, and trouble‑shooting skills
  • Ability to work within NFC’s established policies and procedures, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team with minimal supervision
  • Possess current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified
  • A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer
Salary & Benefits

Salary: $45,900.00 – $60,500.00 (with a 3‑month probation)

Benefits:
Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of paid sick time, 5 paid wellness days, holiday closures.

Schedule & Location

Schedule:

8:30AM – 4:30PM Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed
