Indigenous Youth In Transition Support Worker

About UsNiijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle (NASC) is a registered charitable organization dedicated to delivering healing services for Anishnaabekwewag (Indigenous women) and their families. Therapeutic work combines Anishnaabe practices with community‑centred and client‑centred methods of healing.
ObjectiveTo provide support to Indigenous youth (ages 16‑24) in navigating systems, building community connections, searching for and acquiring housing, and accessing cultural, educational, employment, legal, and health services.
Area of ResponsibilityThe IYIT Support Worker will assist youth in navigating systems, building community connections, and acquiring housing. Responsibilities include access to culture and a range of services.
Responsibilities- Conduct initial intake assessments to determine required supports.
- Provide group‑based learning or one‑on‑one supports to help youth identify needs and develop goals and plans.
- Facilitate access to existing supports and resources, helping youth build and maintain responsible relationships.
- Provide information and referrals that reinforce strengths.
- Ensure access to cultural supports and resources (e.g., traditional teachings, ceremonies, medicines).
- Participate in development, planning, execution, evaluation, and budgeting of programs and services.
- Conduct community outreach, promotion, public presentations, awareness campaigns, and cultural events/activities.
- Collaborate with local Children’s Aid Society to develop referral approaches and raise program awareness.
- Build and maintain positive business relationships and strategic partnerships to strengthen community linkages and crisis response.
- Advocate for delivery and access to cultural and trauma‑informed supports for service users.
- Serve on external committees, workshops, and conferences as directed.
- Assist with funder and NASC documentation (statistical reports, proposals, workplans).
- Maintain accurate case files, program records, and statistics in a secure, confidential system.
- Attend staff meetings, supervisory meetings, training, and planning sessions.
- Maintain and upgrade professional skills, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Superior communication, persuasion, planning, organization, critical thinking, decision‑making, and continuous learning.
- Problem‑solving: quick, creative, ethical.
- High proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Familiarity with client‑management software (e.g., OWL Practice).
- Ability to work under pressure in emotionally charged situations.
- Prioritization and meeting tight deadlines.
- Case‑management, program planning, and budgeting proficiency.
- Professional collaboration with child welfare agencies.
- Understanding of youth engagement and housing support services.
- Knowledge of legislation related to Child, Youth and Families.
- Strong awareness of Anishnaabe cultural values and Indigenous issues.
- Valid G driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
- Minimum 2‑year post‑secondary program in social work or related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of direct work experience in youth social services.
- Alternative education/experience combinations may be considered.
- Completion of Vulnerable Sector Police Check and clean driver’s abstract required.
Full‑time. Pay:
From $48,600 per year.
- Paid statutory and special holidays (14 total).
- Annual vacation entitlement: 3 weeks after probation; 4 weeks after 4 years; 5 weeks after 7 years.
- Paid leave: 15 sick days, 5 domestic/sexual violence days, 5 family responsibility days, 5 bereavement days, 3 emergency days, jury duty paid, 3 hours election‑related paid leave, up to 5 cultural days.
- Two‑week paid winter shutdown.
- Casual dress, dental care, adaptable schedule, on‑site parking, wellness program, work‑from‑home option.
- Paid time off package totaling approximately 59 days per year.
Hybrid remote: based in Peterborough, ON . Ability to commute or relocate to the specified address is required.
