Crisis Counsellor at YWCA

Provide essential 24/7 crisis support as a Shelter Counsellor at YWCA Peterborough Haliburton. Focus on safety planning and advocacy to help women and their dependents escape violence.

In this vital role, you will assist women fleeing abusive situations, focusing on safety for themselves and their families. You'll deliver crisis phone counselling, offer referrals, and co-create safety plans tailored to individual circumstances. Your work will empower women while promoting their rights and well-being through compassionate support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist women to enhance their safety and prevent re-victimization

• Support understanding of rights and violence prevention strategies

• Co-create personalized safety plans with residents

• Conduct lethality screening to assess caller danger levels

• Provide immediate crisis intervention and referrals via hotlines

Requirements:

• Relevant post-secondary education and 2 years of experience

• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction

• Ability to deliver culturally sensitive services

• Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills

• Clear CPIC with vulnerable sector screening
