About the Charitable Donations Pickup Driver Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this critical role will work up to 29 hours per week, driving established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from customers’ homes and designated charity donation bins, and deliver these items to our corporate partners and storage facilities.
Responsibilities- Understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and volunteers.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of the organization’s goals, objectives, services, programs, and structure.
- Operate vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and safely.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Complete and submit the appropriate paperwork daily, including hours‑of‑service logs.
- Carry proof of a valid driver’s license, valid plate permit registration, a copy of the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration/National Safety Code Registration documentation, and vehicle inspection and hours‑of‑service documentation.
- Check in with dispatch at the beginning, mid‑day, and end of scheduled routes.
- Provide an appropriate message card to each donor.
- Properly log all assigned pick‑ups and unload merchandise as instructed.
- Return all equipment to the office at the end of each day.
- Report route discrepancies to dispatch.
- Ensure that only authorized personnel ride inside the truck.
- Participate in all required driving‑related NDT education, initiatives, directives, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as required to ensure effective operation.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read maps.
- Ability to handle 10–50 lbs. loads.
- Ability to drive a 3‑Ton (16‑foot) straight truck.
- Strong organizational skills and route‑planning ability.
- Positive, professional image presentation.
- Effective communication with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients.
- Maintain a public‑relations attitude in stressful situations.
- Understand and follow written or verbal instructions.
- Good command of the English language.
- Must hold a full Class 5 and/or G license or higher, passenger car or light truck.
- Must have a minimum of five years of actual driving experience at the above level (or two years if professionally trained).
- Clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last three years.
