Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Ceramics Engineer to lead the development, processing, and testing of ceramic materials and components for high performance aerospace bearing applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science with a specialization in ceramic engineering, and experience in both R&D and production environments.
Key Responsibilities- Optimize and scale up manufacturing processes for ceramic products.
- Ensure materials, processes and products meet industry and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and quality to support product development and problem‑solving.
- Utilize tools such as SEM, XRD, TGA, and other characterization equipment for material analysis.
- Test ceramic materials to assess their durability, heat resistance, and other properties.
- Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations for ceramic‑related issues.
- Document test methods, processes, and findings in technical reports and internal systems.
- Design, develop, and optimize ceramic materials, compositions, and processing techniques.
- Evaluate the physical and chemical properties of raw materials and final ceramic products.
- Assist in training and technical support to production staff and customers.
- Develop and scale up manufacturing processes such as sintering, casting, extrusion, hot pressing, and slip casting.
- Bachelor's degree in Ceramics Engineering
, Materials Science
, or related field. - 2–5 years of relevant experience in ceramic material development or manufacturing (entry‑level roles may require internships or co‑op experience).
- Familiarity with ceramic processing and finishing techniques.
- Knowledge of mechanical, thermal, and chemical testing of ceramics.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to conduct experiments and analyze data.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and conducting tests. Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work within a dynamic environment with ever changing roles and priorities.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Ceramics or Materials Engineering.
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma tools.
- Office, laboratory and manufacturing floor settings.
- Work independently or as part of a team.
- May involve occasional travel to factories, suppliers, vendors, or customers both domestic and international.
- Position location TBD (Training in Peterborough Facility).
