This 12-month fixed-term admin role sits in the outpatient team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, covering appointment booking across the trust's clinics. The core work is handling outpatient referrals: registering and scanning them onto the trust's systems, chasing GP data quality and tracking consultant review queues. Phone work on appointment queries and travel between the two hospital sites set it apart from a desk-only booking post.

A proven clerical background is the main test of fit, and the first six months are probationary.

What the job involves
  • Register referrals onto the IPM system, keeping data accurate
  • Scan referrals directly into Mediviewer
  • Manage the daily referral Work List so electronic attachments from GP practices are printed, dispatched and processed by consultants within 5 working days, escalating concerns to the supervisor
  • Deliver and collect referral letters to and from consultant offices daily, and distribute them to the clinic clerk's office
  • Liaise with GP practices to maintain referral data quality
  • Coordinate new and follow-up appointments and support the outpatient booking process
  • Answer the telephone and resolve appointment queries courteously and promptly
  • Create waiting list entries for services with appointment slot issues
  • Ensure data quality standards are met and confidentiality is maintained
