Are you passionate about health, safety and wellbeing?

We're looking for a Workforce Health, Safety & Environment Advisor to support our East Coast Route teams in creating a safe, healthy and high-performing workplace.

In this role, you'll provide expert advice and practical support to our Maintenance, Operations and Telecomms teams, helping managers identify and manage risk, improve safety performance, and embed a positive safety culture across the route.

You'll work closely with colleagues at all levels to support investigations, analyse safety data and trends, implement improvement initiatives, and drive behavioural and cultural change. You'll also play a key role in developing people, sharing best practice, and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

We're looking for someone who is proactive, collaborative and solution-focused, with strong communication skills and a passion for helping others. Whether coaching managers, supporting frontline teams or influencing positive change, you'll have the confidence to build relationships and make a real impact.

This is a fantastic opportunity to combine technical expertise with people-focused problem solving in a role that directly contributes to the safety and wellbeing of our workforce.

This role is based primarily on site and involves a 35-hour working week. As we operate a 24/7 railway, you'll need to be flexible and able to support operational requirements,
including night working where required.

What you'll be doing

• Providing expert health, safety and environmental advice, coaching and support to operational teams.
• Working with managers to promote a positive safety culture and drive continuous improvement.
• Monitoring and analysing safety data, identifying trends and recommending practical solutions.
• Supporting accident and incident investigations and helping teams learn from events.
• Identifying health, safety and environmental risks and helping implement effective control measures.
• Supporting the delivery of local and national safety, wellbeing and environmental initiatives.
• Building strong relationships with colleagues, Trade Union Safety Representatives and external partners.
• Coordinating audits, safety tours and assurance activities to drive compliance and best practice.
• Supporting managers and frontline teams to develop their knowledge, capability and confidence in health and safety.
• Helping ensure safe systems of work are implemented effectively across the route.

We're looking for people with bags of potential whose strengths include:

• A NEBOSH Certificate (or working towards a recognised health and safety qualification).
• Knowledge of health, safety, environmental and compliance management processes.
• An understanding of operational environments, ideally within the railway industry.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and recommend practical solutions.
• Experience supporting accident and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to coach, support and develop others to improve safety performance.
