Job Description 4 Month Contract With A Local AuthorityJob Purpose
To deliver high-quality Building Control services that ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation, safeguarding the health, safety, welfare, and convenience of people in and around buildings.
The role supports sustainable development, environmental protection, conservation of fuel and power, water efficiency, and the prevention of crime through effective building control activities. The postholder will provide expert advice, undertake inspections, manage complex projects, and work proactively with clients and stakeholders to achieve compliance while supporting service growth and income generation.
Key Responsibilities- Review plans and assess compliance with Building Regulations, legislation, and associated guidance.
- Carry out site inspections on a range of residential, commercial, and complex developments.
- Provide professional advice to developers, contractors, architects, agents, colleagues, and members of the public.
- Manage complex building control applications and ensure compliance throughout the construction process.
- Identify non-compliant works and take appropriate enforcement or corrective action where required.
- Prepare inspection records, reports, and technical documentation in line with statutory requirements.
- Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, emergency services, and other stakeholders to coordinate regulatory compliance.
- Support dangerous structures, demolition, and emergency response activities, including participation in out-of-hours call-out arrangements.
- Contribute to service improvement, performance monitoring, and customer satisfaction objectives.
- Assist with the promotion and development of Building Control services to support business growth and income generation.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members where required.
- Maintain professional competency and continuing professional development in line with Building Safety Regulator requirements.
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, or a related discipline.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (CABE, RICS, CIOB, or equivalent).
- Class 2 Building Inspector Registration with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Minimum 4 years' post-qualification experience in Building Control.
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, associated legislation, and health and safety requirements.
- Experience inspecting a broad range of building projects and assessing regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site inspections.
- Class 3 Building Inspector Registration with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Degree qualification in a related subject.
- Experience working on Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) and complex commercial developments.
- Knowledge of related regulatory frameworks and planning systems.
- Experience using Building Control software systems and GIS/EDRMS platforms.
