Take accountability for the commercial and cost management of projects from inception through to completion and close out. Work closely with the Project Director and wider project teams to ensure strong commercial performance. Provide commercial expertise and challenge existing commercial approaches and agreements where appropriate. Ensure projects have robust estimates that accurately reflect project scope, risks and opportunities. Oversee procurement, subcontractor management, cost control and commercial reporting.
Support the successful delivery of complex and high-value infrastructure projects. Provide commercial leadership and support the development of members of the wider commercial team. Project Commercial Manager responsibilities:
Ensure robust project estimates are developed and aligned with project scope, risks and opportunities. Manage the procurement process, ensuring appropriate strategies are developed, agreed and implemented. Manage subcontractors in accordance with contractual requirements, including compliance, communications, payments, compensation events and programme submissions. Maintain effective cost management throughout the project lifecycle, including accurate live forecasting and monitoring actual costs against estimates.
Maintain accurate and reliable commercial records to support financial audits and cost assurance. Manage contractual change, commercial risks and opportunities throughout project delivery. Continually review and improve commercial processes to promote consistency and best practice. Support, mentor and develop members of the commercial team. Build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Drive strong commercial performance while ensuring contractual requirements are achieved.
Project Commercial Manager requirements:
Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Professional membership or accreditation such as RICS, CIOB or CICES is desirable. Proven commercial experience delivering multiple and/or complex projects ranging from £100k to multi-million-pound values. Previous experience managing or leading a commercial team. Strong experience in contract administration, ideally working with the NEC suite of contracts .
Experience of managing contractual change, procurement, risk and commercial opportunities. Strong negotiation and estimating experience. Excellent cost management, forecasting and commercial reporting skills. Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
