Overview
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a full-time Consultant with a specialist interest in Glaucoma to join the Ophthalmology Department. The department works with shared community schemes, integration with optometrists, expanded roles for nurses and other non-medical health care professionals, and a high level of clinical research. There is an emphasis on developing innovative ways to meet capacity demands, including virtual clinics.

Job responsibilities
- Contribute to and coordinate the training of medical staff, hospital-based optometrists and orthoptic staff who work in NWAFT’s Glaucoma Ophthalmology service.
- Maintain responsibility for the care of patients in charge and for the proper functioning of the service, including appropriate delegation and training of staff.
- Manage day-to-day operations of clinics and ensure in/outpatient services are covered during planned absences.
- Provide advice and support to clinicians in other services for patients with multiple ocular problems as part of shared care episodes.
- Participate in Medical Advisory Committee activities and other hospital committees as required, with involvement in clinical governance and audit to meet CPD requirements set by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Trust Appraisal Scheme.
Essential — Education and Qualifications
- FRCOphth
- CCT or equivalent in Ophthalmology and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of AAC
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
Essential — Experience & Knowledge
- Clinical Fellowship experience or equivalent
- High degree of surgical (if operating) and clinical skills
- Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels
Essential — Academic Achievements
- Demonstrated participation in audit
- Evidence of completed and published research
- Initiated, designed and completed audit projects and protocols
Desirable
- Evidence of supervising and supporting research

- Effective written and verbal communication, including record keeping
- Excellent interpersonal skills with tact, diplomacy, negotiation and persuasion as well as authority
- Ability to lead a team and develop innovative patient care delivery
- Capacity to stimulate and accommodate colleagues and to manage staff
