Our Medicine Division at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Neurologist to join our friendly and supportive team. You will be part of a dynamic team delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
This role supports collaborative, cross-organisational work to deliver high-quality care and drive service development across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
Main dutiesThis post is offered as 5 PAs.
To undertake up to four general neurology outpatient clinics per week, plus one two-hour "virtual" triage clinic where all referrals are triaged. Clinics will predominantly take place at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, with flexibility to deliver clinics at Peterborough City Hospital, Stamford Hospital, or Doddington Hospital as required.
While the focus is on general neurology, a sub-specialty interest is encouraged; current consultants offer sub-specialty clinics at NWAFT and Cambridge.
Although the focus is outpatient care, the postholder will contribute to inpatient reviews at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, with potential for a cross-site consultant of the week pattern in the future.
To participate in departmental meetings, presentations, clinical audit and Trust Clinical Governance activities.
You must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or possess equivalent experience). We will provide suitable office accommodation, secretarial support and IT access.

QualificationsEssential
- Medical Degree (MBChB, MBBS) with MRCP or equivalent
- Within 6 months of CCT in Neurology/General or Acute Internal Medicine/Geriatric Medicine or Registration on the GMC specialist register in Neurology, Acute/General Internal Medicine/Geriatric Medicine
Desirable
- Higher medical degree
Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Neurology
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in Neurology
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care
- Experience of audit management
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Ability to advise and run a smooth Neurology outpatient and inpatient service
- Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities and treatment
- Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
- Experience of supervising FY and CMT Trainees, Specialist Registrars, Trust Grade Doctors and Nurse Specialists
Desirable
- Experience of supervised training in SpR-equivalent programme
- Experience of research relevant to Neurology
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Essential
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
- Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and Clinical Governance and Audit requirements
