Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant post in the North West Anglia NHS Trust. Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formally merged with Hinchingbrooke Hospital on 1st April 2017, to form the new Trust (on 3 sites).
This is a locum post fixed term at 4 monthsbased at Peterborough City Hospital. This post is expected to start in September 2026. Applicants interested in working less than full time or who wish to job share are welcome to apply.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be working on one site at Peterborough city Hospital though there may be a need for cross site working in the future. The total number of deliveries is 4500 per annum. This appointment will be made by the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
NWAFT serves a diverse and fast-growing population of 700,000 people and employs around 6,000 staff. NWAFT is commissioned by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB and Lincolnshire ICB.
Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Maternity Departments have been rated as 'Good' by CQC in June 2023. They have fully equipped obstetric and midwifery led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services. The Maternity IT system is K2 with all 3 modules
- Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal.
This appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
Both units have a credible reputation for their personal approach to the provision of maternity services and the excellent care provided for women and their families. There are about 2200 births per annum at Hinchingbrooke Hospital (HH). Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) delivers around 4500 women per annum. Both units have a Midwifery-led birthing Unit (MLBU) alongside the Consultant led Unit.
The standard job plan is of 10 programmed activities (PAs). This includes participation in a 1 in 13 on call rota for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Peterborough Hospital.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCOG or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM or equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering'
- ATSM Maternal Medicine or Advanced Antenatal Practice or equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering'
- ATSM Benign Gynaecological Surgery:
Open and Laparoscopic or equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering' - ATSM Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy equivalence either subspecialisation or 'grandfathering'
- CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee
- Recent active involvement in practical intrapartum obstetrics
- Broad experience in obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Experience of Maternal Medicine at secondary provider level
- MOET/ALSO instructor/PROMPT course
- Teaching at post- and undergraduate levels
- Able to perform laparoscopic treatment for ectopic pregnancy
- Evidence of Attendance and presentation [incl poster] at national or international Obstetric and gynae meetings
- Evidence of completed and published research
