This role includes an on-call commitment of 1 in 10, ensuring you can focus on providing exceptional care without the distractions of elective activities while on call.
If you hold GMC Registration, possess relevant clinical and surgical experience in colorectal and general surgery, and are eager to mentor junior medical staff, we want to hear from you.
Main duties of the jobAs an Upper GI Surgeon, you will have a range of responsibilities, including:
- Full clinical responsibility for Upper GI and general surgical patients.
- Promoting the further development of Upper GI surgical services.
- Supporting the development of clinical governance and using audit findings to enhance the quality of treatment and minimize clinical risk.
- Collaborating with colleagues to achieve the collective goals of the department.
- Developing innovative working practices and supporting the growing clinical contributions of non-medical staff.
- Supervising and managing junior medical staff.
- Assisting in the teaching and training of junior staff and contributing to postgraduate medical education.
- Work with the Clinical Directorate management team to ensure that national targets and quality standards are met.

The job plan will be based on a 10 PA elective working week.
On-CallThe on call commitment is 1 in 10. No elective activity is undertaken whilst on call or for the post take ward round the following morning.
Person Specification Education/Qualification Essential- Entry on GMC
- Post Graduate thesis
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register
- Publication of post graduate articles in peer reviewed journal
- Experience of NIHR Portfolio trials
- Experience in training Resident doctors
- Interest in research and service development
- Ability to both lead and work within a team
- Shows respect for and values all colleagues
- Good interpersonal skills
- Communication skills training
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical management of Emergency Upper GI/General Surgery patients
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical management of Upper GI patients
- Able to offer expert advice on the management of Upper GI problems
