Pupils follow a primary‑level curriculum for English and Maths, with a strong emphasis on functional skills and developing independence and life skills.
The school provides highly structured routines and personalised learning to help pupils build confidence, emotional regulation, and practical skills for living independently. The role is available full‑time and is to start ASAP with the view of continuing into the new academic year.
Key Responsibilities- Take a leading role in planning, delivering, and supporting differentiated learning activities across English and Maths at a primary level, adapted to meet a wide range of SEND and SEMH needs.
- Support pupils to develop functional skills, including communication, numeracy, problem‑solving, and everyday independence.
- Deliver small group and 1:1 interventions, reinforcing key learning and helping pupils apply skills in practical, real‑life contexts.
- Use structured, trauma‑informed approaches such as visual timetables, step‑by‑step instructions, modelling, and hands‑on learning to promote engagement and understanding.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour, offering calm, consistent guidance and helping learners re‑engage with learning when required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to adapt lessons, monitor progress, and contribute to individual support plans.
- Promote independence by encouraging pupils to make choices, take responsibility for their learning, and develop confidence in everyday tasks.
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH, within a school or alternative education setting.
- Sound understanding of primary‑level English and Maths and how these can be adapted into functional, practical learning.
- Confidence in leading learning sessions, explaining tasks clearly, modelling activities, and maintaining pupil engagement.
- Ability to use a range of inclusive teaching strategies to support pupils with diverse learning, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Relevant qualifications such as HLTA status, Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent experience.
