We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Assistant Headteacher (L1-L5) who is passionate about improving outcomes for all children and has the vision, drive and commitment to help shape the future of our successful one-form entry primary school.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding classroom practitioner to join our leadership team while maintaining a significant teaching commitment. The successful candidate will combine strategic leadership with excellence in the classroom and will lead the development of English across the school
, including reading, writing, phonics and oracy.

The Role

As Assistant Headteacher, you will work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders to drive school improvement and ensure the highest standards of education, safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Strategic Leadership and School Improvement
  • Support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership, management and day-to-day operation of the school.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to deliver school improvement priorities and achieve whole‑school objectives.
  • Contribute to the school's self‑evaluation, monitoring and improvement planning.
  • Undertake leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Headteacher when required.
  • Represent the school professionally and positively within the wider community, maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Liaise regularly with the Headteacher to support additional projects, events, initiatives and operational priorities throughout the academic year.
Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Leadership
  • Lead and champion high‑quality teaching and learning across the school.
  • Take strategic responsibility for English, including reading, writing, phonics and oracy.
  • Monitor standards, pupil progress and attainment in English, supporting colleagues to secure excellent outcomes.
  • Lead curriculum development, assessment and professional development in English.
  • Analyse performance data and use evidence‑informed approaches to raise achievement.
  • Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and improvement of teaching, learning and assessment practices.
  • Provide professional support, guidance and coaching to teaching and support staff.
  • Support the induction, development and performance management of staff.
Classroom Teaching
  • Undertake a class teacher role, demonstrating exemplary practice and high expectations for all pupils.
  • Model outstanding teaching and learning and inspire colleagues through effective classroom practice.
  • Promote an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious culture where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential.
Behaviour, Safeguarding and Pupil Wellbeing
  • Oversee aspects of safeguarding, pupil welfare and wellbeing in line with statutory requirements and school policies.
  • Lead and support behaviour management across the school, promoting positive behaviours and attitudes to learning.
  • Respond to behavioural incidents and provide guidance to colleagues on effective behaviour support strategies.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality and pupil engagement, implementing interventions where appropriate.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative and inclusive school culture where all pupils feel safe, valued and supported.
Partnerships and School Operations
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing, attendance and achievement.
  • Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers, addressing concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support the management and organisation of the daily running of the school.
  • Coordinate staffing arrangements, including responding to staff absence and organising appropriate cover where required.
  • Support the wider life of the school and contribute positively to our strong team ethos.
General Responsibilities
  • Lead and support staff in implementing school policies, procedures and improvement priorities.
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the role, as reasonably directed by the Headteacher.
