- Attendance Coach (1-year Fixed Term Contract) PAY - £28, 074 per annum (pro-rata where applicable) HOURS - 37 hours per week LOCATION
- Peterborough College/Stamford College Multiple roles at our Peterborough & Stamford campuses JOB PURPOSE The Attendance Coach is a newly created, data-centric role providing a dedicated, unrelenting focus on student attendance and early pastoral intervention Acting as the primary frontline resource for immediate absence follow-up and early intervention, you will follow up on student absences immediately to identify internal and external barriers to education.
Through a high-visibility 'day-one' response, you will ensure every absence is accounted for, directly linking rigorous attendance tracking with the colleges proactive safeguarding culture. By taking ownership of initial, low-level attendance barriers and liaising directly with parents, you will relieve the administrative burden from teaching staff and allow the Student Wellbeing Services to focus on complex safeguarding needs You will play a vital role in ensuring students are supported to achieve the college's overall attendance benchmark of 95%.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Act as the immediate primary frontline resource for daily absence follow-up, identifying and tracking diverse barriers to education starting from a student's first day of absence. Carry out targeted home visits where appropriate, utilising a proactive approach to investigate persistent absence, engage directly with families, and identify external barriers to education. Work with department administrators and curriculum staff to regularly monitor and track student absence/lateness;
liaise with parents/carers, and outside agencies where appropriate to ensure students are supported to achieve an overall attendance rate of 95% across their study programmes. Utilise the data management systems and reports, ensuring clear and accurate data is available for curriculum teams to access to maximise a collaborative approach to improving student attendance and retention. Conduct proactive monitoring of student social spaces and communal areas across the campus, engaging with students to ensure they are directed to their timetabled sessions promptly and promoting a culture of excellent punctuality and attendance.
Liaise extensively with parents and carers to ensure students are supported to achieve an overall attendance rate of 95%, with specific oversight to ensure English and Maths attendance remains above 80% Remove the administrative burden of attendance tracking from teaching staff, working collaboratively with curriculum administrators and the Curriculum Administration team (where capacity allows) Take responsibility for handling initial, low-level barriers to attendance so that the Wellbeing team is freed up to focus exclusively on high-level safeguarding and complex clinical needs.
Utilise data management systems to keep a daily and weekly check on attendance and punctuality patterns, ensuring clear and accurate data is available to maximise a collaborative approach to improving student retention Upon identifying complex safeguarding or mental health concerns during attendance follow-ups, refer students to the central Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing Services. Attend meetings with curriculum managers and the Attendance Group Lead to discuss student attendance, review strategies for persistent absence, and implement interventions for vulnerable groups.
Active involvement in IEG student recruitment activities, including Open Days, taster days, enrolment, and student induction. DESIRABLE Engender a strong team ethos, which promotes a positive, can-do, and innovative attitude across the department.
