Help learners build the confidence, communication skills and qualifications they need to progress into further study, apprenticeships and future careers.

In this busy and exciting role, you will deliver engaging and inspirational Functional Skills English teaching to learners studying Level 2 and below, helping them develop essential literacy skills that support both academic success and employability. You will play a key role in creating positive learning experiences that motivate students to achieve their qualifications and reach their full potential.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the College, you will contribute to the planning, development and delivery of high-quality English provision, ensuring programmes remain relevant, innovative and responsive to learner needs. You will assess learner work, provide timely and constructive feedback, monitor progress and implement effective support strategies that promote achievement and retention.

You will also play an important role in supporting the wider learner journey through tutorials, recruitment activities, quality assurance processes and learner support. Through your enthusiasm for English and commitment to excellent teaching and learning, you will help students gain the skills, confidence and aspirations needed for future success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality Functional Skills English teaching and learning
• Assess learner work and provide timely, constructive feedback
• Set, monitor and review SMART learner targets
• Track learner progress and implement support interventions
• Develop engaging teaching resources and schemes of work
• Deliver academic tutorials and learner support sessions
• Contribute to curriculum planning, development and review
• Undertake assessment and internal quality assurance activities
• Support student recruitment, interviews and open events
• Promote the effective use of ILT within teaching and learning
• Embed English and maths skills across learning activities
• Maintain accurate learner attendance, progress and assessment records

What we're looking for:

You will be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable English specialist with a passion for helping learners overcome barriers and achieve success. You will hold a relevant English qualification and ideally possess a recognised teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one with support from the College.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate and engage learners with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. You will be organised, adaptable and committed to delivering outstanding teaching, using innovative approaches and learning technologies to enhance the student experience. Previous experience within Further Education, Functional Skills delivery, assessment or course coordination would be advantageous.
