This role requires 5 days in the office model.
What You Will DoAs a Senior Design Engineer in the team, you will be expected to strong relevant design experience, knowledge of IC engines and be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks and projects. Tasks will include:
- Design of Cylinder Heads and Cylinder Blocks for use in diesel and alternative fuel scenarios. This will include the layout architecture of these components with interacting systems leading to the fully detailed modelling of these components ready for a cost-effective production ready design
- Working in a multi-disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements
- Developing strong relationships with suppliers
- Planning and managing projects and sub-project deliverables, ability to lead
- Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
- Generate and conduct design reviews to gain wider approval
- Maintain communication to peers, team leaders and stakeholders with progress against planned activities
- Development of drawings to standards and other technical data to support the release of parts for prototype and volume production.
- Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools
- Expert level of expertise in complex CAD geometry including surface modelling related to major castings specifically cylinder heads and blocks using CREO
10 - A sound understanding of the requirements of systems that interact with these components such as Rotating Systems, Valve train, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience
- Strong understanding of casting and machining processes related to casting of complex cast iron components
- Minimum of 4-6 years design experience in CAD
- Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued
- Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes
- Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles
- Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems
- Self-motivation and an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet established commitments.
- Excellent communications skills & Teamwork
- To collaborate & manage interactions on behalf of external suppliers to develop design solutions.
- Knowledge and usage of Team Centre – or similar data management software
- Experience of running and participating in FMEA
- Experience in component and engine validation & verification
- Experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector
- Experience with alternative fuels and spark ignited engines
