Our client is currently looking to recruit a Pump Engineer to work for a local company based in Peterborough. Hours are Monday to Friday pm and company van is provided. You will be a technical specialist responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of pumping systems used to move fluids in industrial, commercial, or domestic settings. This role often bridges the gap between mechanical and electrical engineering, as it requires knowledge of both rotating machinery and the control systems that power them.
CoreResponsibilities
- Installation and Commissioning:
Setting up new pump systems, including submersible pumps, booster sets, and pressurisation units, ensuring they are correctly configured and operational. - Maintenance and Servicing:
Performing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) to prevent equipment failure and ensure long-term efficiency. - Fault Diagnosis & Repair:
Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues—such as bearing failures, seal leaks, or motor faults—and performing on-site or workshop-based repairs. - Emergency Response:
Participating in 24/7 call-out rotas to address critical system failures, particularly in wastewater or flood defence applications. - Reporting:
Documenting work via mobile devices or PDAs, including service reports, risk assessments, and parts usage.
- Wastewater & Drainage:
Handling sewage pumps, treatment plants, and grey water systems, often involving work in confined spaces. - Renewables (Heat Pumps):
Installing and maintaining Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) and ground source systems as part of zero-carbon heating initiatives. - Industrial & Commercial:
Managing high-pressure booster sets, HVAC circulator pumps, and chemical dosing systems for large-scale facilities., We maintain appropriate procedures and technologies to ensure the security, integrity, and confidentiality of all personal data from collection through to deletion.

Qualifications- Must be able to work out in all weathers.
- Technical Expertise:
Strong mechanical fitting skills (handling seals, bearings, and couplings) and basic electrical competence - 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations is preferable. - Problem Solving:
Ability to diagnose complex issues using tools like micrometers and diagnostic software. - Compliance:
Deep knowledge of health and safety standards, particularly for working with hazardous fluids or in restricted environments. - Driving Licence is essential for this role as it is field-based and requires a full, valid driving licence for travel to client sites.
