Job Description

JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and Compliance Company looking for engineers to join our team in Peterborough. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing you to work part‑time or full‑time.

This role offers potential earnings on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts, giving you flexibility.

To apply, you must have transport or means to get to work and equipment, hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable, honest and have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments, measuring devices and additional tools, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.

A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer

As a PAT engineer, no two days are the same. You’ll see a variety of locations and environments.

Your day starts with packing up all necessary tools and equipment into your van before the first job.

On site, you’ll test appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers that require PAT testing. You will also inform users of results and explain why certain appliances may be unfit for use.

After testing, you’ll record findings in a dedicated test report book or electronic system and provide employers with a copy. Additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists may also be required.

Throughout the day, you’ll move from location to location, alone or as part of a team, so staying organised and ensuring all tests are completed accurately is essential.

Skill, experience and patience are rewarded. As a PAT testing engineer, you help keep workplaces safe and develop your knowledge and expertise.

Benefits

Self‑employed flexibility, national job opportunities, supportive team and training.
