Senior Design Engineer – PE Global, Peterborough

PE Global is currently recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer for a leading multi-national manufacturing client based in Peterborough.

This is an initial 24-month contract position working fully on site.

Working hours:

Mon – Thurs 08:30 – 16:45;
Fri 08:30 – 16:15.

Pay Rate: £35.37ph PAYE or £48.01ph Umbrella.

Our client cannot assist with any visa sponsorship and candidates must have the correct visa to live and work in the UK.

• This role will be focused on design solutions to address challenging requirements, from projects within New Product Introduction. The successful candidate will serve as an experienced contributor on assignments that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across global Manufacturing sites, suppliers and customers.
• Design and packaging engine components such as major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valve train, drivetrain and in‑cylinder components.
• Input to system design development for the breather, cooling, FEAD & lubrication system.
• Working in a multi-disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements.
• Developing strong relationships with suppliers.
• Planning and managing project and sub‑project deliverables, ability to lead.
• Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
• Generate and conduct design reviews to gain wider approval.
• Maintain communication to peers, team leader and stakeholders with progress against planned activities.
• Development of drawings.
• Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools.

• Expert level of expertise in complex CAD geometry using CREO

• 3 to 5 years of experience in internal combustion engines, diesel and off‑highway diesel.
• A sound understanding of the requirements of systems that interact with these components such as Rotating Systems, Valve train, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience.
• Strong understanding of casting and machining processes related to casting of complex cast iron components.
• Minimum of 6 years design experience in CAD.
• Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued.
• Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes.
• Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles.
• Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems.
• Knowledge and usage of Team Centre – or similar data management software is advantageous.
• Experience of running and participating in FMEA is advantageous.
• Experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector advantageous.
