Overview

We are a collaborative organisation within the @one Alliance, delivering a large share of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. We are preparing for AMP8 and offer opportunities for career progression within a dynamic portfolio of water assets and projects.

We are seeking a Design Manager to lead an engineering team in delivering design solutions for water (potable) non-infrastructure projects, including asset/storage point maintenance, groundwater abstraction, water treatment works upgrades, and emergency projects within the Water Business Unit.

What you will be doing

Design leadership and management of the engineering design delivery for the storage points, maintenance and emergencies portfolio on water (potable) non-infrastructure projects. Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team (circa 15-20 staff) to deliver engineering design solutions for the portfolio. Develop and manage Engineering Project Plans that cover scope, program, cost, risk, and resources. Provide direction on suitable treatment methods and process design in collaboration with Senior Discipline Engineers.

Assess project complexity and assign competent engineering resources. Implement design quality procedures to achieve a right-first-time philosophy. Manage supplier and subcontractor design input, including engagement, selection, management, and integration of designs.

Key Accountabilities

    Provide direction on suitable treatment methods and process design in collaboration with Senior Discipline Engineers.
  • Resource Management:
    Assess project complexity and assign suitably competent engineering resources.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Implement design quality procedures and ensure adherence to a right-first-time philosophy.
  • Design Input Management:
    Manage supplier and subcontractor design input, including engagement, selection, management, and integration of designs.
Experience, skills and behaviours

Ideally hold a degree in an engineering discipline and preferably be Chartered or working towards Chartered status, with proven experience in the Water sector, ideally on potable water non-infrastructure treatment projects. Familiarity with UK Water Industry regulations. Strong people management, collaborative communication, quality assurance, and risk and opportunities management. A focus on Right First Time and timely delivery.
