Electrical Design Engineer

Salary: £40.000 - £55.000 + Bonus + Overtime + Benefits

Location: Office based - Peterborough, UK (commutable from: Peterborough, Wellingborough, Cambridge, Grantham and Wisbech)

We are working with an established System Integrator company based in Peterborough, UK. They are recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. In return for a salary in the region £40.000 - £55.000 along with excellent employment benefits.

Our Client is specialising in the design and supply of customer standard process control systems to the food industry. They currently have vacancies for talented, highly motivated individuals who are looking for opportunities to develop their personal and professional capabilities in this exciting, diverse and fast-moving field.

In this role, you’ll design and test custom control panels using AutoCAD and EPLAN, collaborate with clients and internal teams, ensuring compliance with standards, and provide technical support during panel assembly.

Your role will involve on-site modifications, electrical testing, and maintaining accurate documentation, all while driving forward cutting-edge solutions in control panel design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design of MCC Panels (motor circuits, safety circuits, PLC equipment, layouts)
  • Produce I/O configuration and I/O lists, material specifications and bills of material
  • Produce cable lists / sizing calculations / electrical test sheets / single line diagrams
  • Design cable routes, calculate containment size and update building layout drawings
  • Writing Risk Assessments and Method Statements / CDM regulations
  • Modifications to hardware and panels on site (24

    VDC, 230

    VAC, 415

    VAC)
  • Electrical testing / fault finding on site
Requirements
  • Technical/Vocational diploma or degree in electrical engineering or C&G Level 3, NVQ 3 & requirements for electrical installations (BS7671) or equivalent
  • Experience with Amtech, AutoCAD, Excel and EPLAN, or other drawing package
  • Knowledge of current electrical regulations / safety requirements
  • Knowledge of drives, PLCs, control gear (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens)
  • Flexible, self-motivated, works well as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and enjoy working in a team
  • Valid driving licence and ready to travel in the UK and worldwide
  • Demonstrable experience of electrical design engineering
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
