Lead the engineering vision behind some of the UK's most ambitious water infrastructure programmes. We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to join Anglian Water’s Major Infrastructure Delivery (MID) team, providing strategic engineering leadership across a portfolio of circa £2bn of investment. This role will play a critical part in shaping and assuring the engineering solutions that underpin some of the most significant infrastructure programmes in our region, including major treatment, network and growth projects.

As Head of Engineering, you’ll lead engineering strategy and design governance across a Major Projects Framework, ensuring solutions are safe, efficient, resilient and aligned to Anglian Water’s long-term operational and environmental objectives. Working within a complex Design & Build delivery model, you’ll provide executive leadership for design assurance, engineering governance and technical risk management across a diverse portfolio of major projects.

Reporting to the Managing Director of Major Infrastructure Delivery, and with a close functional relationship with the Engineering Director, you’ll act as the key engineering interface between programme delivery teams, corporate governance functions and the integrated supply chain. This is a unique opportunity to influence how major infrastructure is designed, delivered and operated for decades to come.

What you’ll be doing :
  • Provide strategic engineering leadership across Major Infrastructure Delivery, setting engineering standards, governance and technical direction across major programmes.
  • Lead engineering strategy across a circa £2bn capital investment portfolio, ensuring robust design assurance and effective management of engineering risk.
  • Champion innovative, sustainable and standardised engineering solutions that optimise whole-life cost, carbon, performance and deliverability.
  • Have responsibility for design assurance, ensuring compliance with Anglian Water standards and CDM requirements.
  • Lead the resolution of complex engineering and design challenges, removing barriers to delivery and improving programme outcomes.
  • Sponsor digital, data-led and modern methods of construction approaches, supporting a #Digital First culture across infrastructure delivery.
  • Drive engineering excellence across the supply chain, establishing best practice, capability development and lessons learned frameworks.
  • Provide executive leadership for commissioning, temporary works governance and engineering assurance activities across programmes.
  • Lead innovation and research initiatives, identifying opportunities that improve long-term resilience, performance and efficiency.
  • Strengthen safety in design, process safety governance and engineering compliance across all major projects.
  • Build and develop high-performing engineering teams, ensuring robust succession planning, professional development and future workforce capability.
What we’re looking for:
  • Degree-qualified engineer with professional chartership, or working towards chartership.
  • Significant leadership experience within major infrastructure design, engineering delivery or capital programme environments.
  • Proven experience leading engineering governance, technical assurance and risk management across complex infrastructure programmes.
  • Strong understanding of Design & Build delivery models and engineering assurance within regulated environments.
