Design Engineer (CREO) | 12-month renewable contract | On-site Peterborough | Inside IR35 | £32.66/hr PAYE
Role summaryWe're recruiting a Design Engineer with proven experience designing fuel and/or air systems for large/heavy vehicles. This is a 12-month renewable contract, working on-site in Peterborough alongside designers and engineers within the heavy vehicles industry.
Key responsibilities- Design, plan and deliver air/fuel system and component development projects to time, cost and quality targets.
- Communicate design status, project progress and key technical issues to peers, stakeholders and management.
- Lead design reviews to secure cross-functional support for new designs, supplier nomination and capital investment.
- Work with suppliers to develop specifications and deliver robust solutions using APQP.
- Assess technical risk using FMEA and define/coordinate simulation and validation activities (DVP&R).
- Investigate and resolve technical issues using 8D methodology.
- Partner with Product Management to capture customer needs and translate them into design requirements.
- Produce and review technical documentation and reports to support production design release.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to implement solutions across worldwide facilities.
- Apply Lean principles and capture lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent knowledge/experience).
- 6-8 years' relevant engineering experience.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and understanding of engine components/systems and component development.
- High level of CAD/PLM capability:
Creo (design) and Teamcenter (PLM). - Experience designing powertrain and/or engine components.
- Comfortable supporting peer reviews, sharing learning and developing robust solutions.
- Ability to research and resolve problems autonomously.
- Good understanding of manufacturing principles and processes.
- Fuel systems (high/low pressure), air systems, EGR systems, turbochargers, manifolds.
- Leading/participating in APQP, FMEA and DVP&R.
- Simulation, rig testing and complete system testing.
- Background from heavy vehicles, aerospace, marine or military sectors.
Inside IR35 | £32.66 per hour PAYE
