Job Description & How to Apply Below

I'm recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Operations Engineering team in Ampthill. This is an opportunity to take ownership of tooling design across the product lifecycle, supporting projects from prototype development through to production and ongoing product support.

You’ll design and implement tooling such as jigs, fixtures, gauges, dies, prototype models and machine attachments. Working with teams across the business, you’ll help improve manufacturing quality, increase production yield and reduce costs. You’ll also act as a technical point of contact for tooling, offering advice, solving problems and coordinating engineering activity.

In this role, you’ll:
  • Develop tooling for assembly, integration and test, machining, composite layup and additive manufacturing.
  • Create technical requirement specifications, process instructions, manufacturing bills of materials and routings.
  • Support production and programme delivery, including capital equipment requirements from definition through to acceptance.
  • Work closely with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering and other teams.
  • Contribute to customer and programme meetings, process reviews and updates to engineering documentation.
  • Promote right-first-time quality and practical continuous improvement.
I'm looking for someone with:
  • Mechanical design and manufacturing process experience.
  • CAD experience, ideally with Creo, and the ability to produce technical drawings.
  • An understanding of GD&T, including key characteristics and datum structures.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and quality tools.
  • Awareness of DFM/A and PFMEA principles.
  • Experience preparing operational documentation and manufacturing data packs.
  • Strong communication, analytical and influencing skills, with confidence working across different levels of an organisation.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, quality and process improvement.

The successful candidate must be able to obtain the appropriate level Security Check (SC) clearance
