About the Role
Peterborough Limited is recruiting for a permanent Visitor Assistant to work in Peterborough Flag Fen.
Flag Fen is designated as a scheduled ancient monument and provides important habitat for rare species. Our vision is to develop a fenland restoration project to help the site cope with environmental change and to connect people to the countryside through inspiring and educational experiences.
As a conservation champion and lover of the outdoors, you will care for and enhance the rare and protected habitat at Flag Fen, ensuring that the landscape is safe and beautifully presented.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver a warm welcome and orientation to visitors.
- Process admissions, shop, cafe and housekeeping duties.
- Answer visitor questions and give guided tours as needed.
- Process transactions through the till, including cash up to approximately £1,500.
- Sell annual passes and upsell events and activities.
- Monitor the Flag Fen e-mail inbox and respond to queries by e-mail and telephone.
- Deliver customer feedback surveys.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards.
- Monitor, restock and merchandise retail and catering stock displays.
- Lock and unlock service points as required.
- Perform daily cafe duties such as cake counter set up, chiller replenishment, use of microwaves, ovens and turbo ovens, prepare hot drinks, clean the cafe and kitchen, and pot wash.
Working pattern:
The site is open to visitors March to October (Wednesday‑Sunday) and during school holidays 7 days per week. In November to February the site is open weekends only. The role requires most weekends and bank holidays.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Food hygiene level 2 certification (training will be provided every 2 years).
- First Aider (training will be provided if not already qualified).
- Experience working in a shop or cafe environment.
- Able to give excellent customer service.
- Able to deal with challenging situations appropriately and professionally.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and internet systems.
- Great team worker.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Positive, flexible and proactive attitude.
- Ability to follow processes and procedures consistently.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and excellent customer service standards.
This role is subject to a DBS check.
