The Maternity Smoke-Free Lead Practitioner role will contribute to tackling health inequalities by promoting and supporting Smoke-Free Pregnancies across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Systems.
It will focus on engaging service users and their families to adopt healthy lifestyles by providing tobacco dependence treatment in line with Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle v3.2, NICE Guidance, and the NHS Long Term Plan.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will establish and maintain communication with service users who smoke, for which strong interpersonal skills are essential. A commitment to working collaboratively with community stakeholders, service users and carers to help reduce health inequalities across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is necessary.
The post holder will deliver evidence-based interventions that focus on behaviour change, and licensed treatment aids for which training can be offered to enable delivery.
Lead and manage a dedicated team of professionals committed to advancing smoke-free practices for pregnant service users. Develop and implement effective strategies to raise awareness and support smoking cessation. Accurately maintain and complete detailed data records to monitor progress and outcomes precisely.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and effective care for our service users.
We are committed to supporting colleagues through organisational change. Priority will be given to staff at risk within North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board.

Person Specification Education/Knowledge and Qualifications- Educated to GCSE level standard, incl. Maths and English
- NVQ Level 3 in the associated topic or equivalent plus additional diploma-level training.
- Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection, Patient Confidentiality and Information Governance
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Relevant qualification in public health, nursing, or a maternity-related field
- Leadership or Customer Service Qualification
- Education/teaching qualification or experience
- Accredited Health Education and Promotion qualification
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of the impact smoking has on pregnancy. Knowledge and understanding of NICE Guidelines
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Experience of working in maternity care, with evidence of implementing or participating in change
- Proven experience of meeting regular targets and deadlines
- Experience using hospital systems, including PAS, E Track, Evolve, and K2.
- Experience in providing healthcare, healthcare advice, or health promotion advice to patients or members of the public
- Experience in customer service in a healthcare environment, e.g. reception and call centre
- Knowledge and experience of working with different methods of stop smoking aids such as vapes, nicotine replacement therapy and incentive schemes
- Motivated and enthusiastic, able to meet set targets, often working under pressure.
- Good knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practice in smoking cessation, the consequences of smoking in pregnancy and the benefits of quitting
- Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise work.
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills
- Able to demonstrate initiative, innovate, be proactive and work unsupervised
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with professionals/individuals from different backgrounds.
- Understanding and ability to prepare and evaluate data to monitor trends for service improvement
