By enrolling in the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN School Nurse) programme starting in January 2027, you will gain comprehensive academic and practical training through our partnership with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).

Main Duties of the Job
  • A passion for public health, with the ability to adopt a ‘think family’ approach and a genuine desire to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Current NMC registration, or eligibility to register as a newly qualified nurse or midwife before the course start date. You must also meet the academic entry requirements for Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).
  • Commitment to a 52‑week full‑time programme, including timetabled annual leave, delivered by Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).
  • The course includes a 50/50 split between academic study and supervised practice within our Healthy Child Programme teams.
  • A desire to build a long‑term career within the Healthy Child Programme Services.
Job Purpose

To undertake the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse training (SCPHN school nursing) to develop the knowledge and skills required to function safely and effectively as an SCPHN School Nurse and lead practice within the public health agenda through support, education and guidance of the Higher Education Institute and Practice Supervisor, Practice Assessor and Practice Lead.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend all educational sessions as directed by the University, submitting assignments promptly to achieve all objectives to the required standard. Develop new skills and knowledge showing integration of theory and practice.
  • Maintain close liaison with the Practice Assessor throughout the course and agree a clinical learning programme which will facilitate and support theoretical learning and reflect the value of practice‑centred education. Take personal responsibility to identify and highlight any areas of concern regarding progress and development before these become problematic.
  • Continuously understand the wider determinants of health and seek to address health inequalities across diverse communities and populations.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual/family focused programmes of care (universal, targeted and specialist pathways), under the direction of the practice supervisor and assessor and work in partnership with other agencies such as support services for families, social care, early years provision/schools etc. Maintain professional record‑keeping standards ensuring records are accurate and contemporaneous in line with Trust policy and NMC standards.
  • Develop an awareness and involvement in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme with support and guidance from the Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor whilst utilising the skills and knowledge of the wider skill mix team.
