Job Description & How to Apply Below

Facilities Maintenance Technician

Kettering / Office Based / £36k pa

Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm with 1 in 4 weekends (weekends paid at premium)

The Role

This is a hands‑on facilities maintenance role within a busy warehouse environment
.

You won’t be spending your day maintaining production machinery or complex automation systems. Your job is to look after the building, warehouse facilities and general site environment
, making sure everything is safe, compliant and working as it should.

That could mean carrying out Legionella checks on showers, inspecting and repairing warehouse racking, testing emergency lighting, checking sprinkler systems or dealing with general repairs around the site.

It’s a varied role for someone practical who spots what needs doing, gets on with it and takes pride in keeping a workplace safe and well maintained.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Carrying out general facilities maintenance throughout the warehouse and surrounding site
  • Inspecting warehouse racking and completing minor repairs where required
  • Carrying out shower testing and routine Legionella compliance checks
  • Completing sprinkler system checks and testing
  • Testing emergency lighting
  • Carrying out routine generator checks and testing
  • Completing planned preventative maintenance checks around the building and facilities
  • Responding to general maintenance requests from teams across the site
  • Identifying faults, damage or potential safety issues and making sure they are dealt with appropriately
  • Carrying out minor repairs and general practical maintenance work
  • Working at height when required and where appropriately trained
  • Keeping accurate records of inspections, testing and maintenance completed
  • Making sure Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times
What You’ll Need
  • Previous experience in a facilities maintenance, building maintenance, caretaker, handyman or similar practical maintenance role
  • Experience with using MHE Equipment (Fork lift Trucks, Scissor lifts etc)
  • Ideally, experience working within a warehouse, distribution centre, factory or other large commercial site
  • Practical experience carrying out general repairs and maintenance
  • Experience or knowledge of racking inspections and repairs would be particularly useful
  • An understanding of planned preventative maintenance
  • A basic mechanical and electrical understanding
  • The confidence to carry out routine testing and inspections accurately
  • Good attention to detail, particularly where safety and compliance are concerned
  • The ability to organise your workload and decide what needs dealing with first
  • A practical, hands‑on approach to problem solving
  • Basic computer skills for recording completed work
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with people across a busy site
  • A flexible approach when priorities change
  • A full UK driving licence
  • An Electrical or Mechanical Engineering qualification such as an ONC, or equivalent practical experience, would be beneficial
What You Might Not Like

If you’re looking for a highly technical engineering role working mainly on automated machinery, PLCs or production equipment,
this probably isn’t the job you’re looking for
.

This is much more about facilities and building maintenance
.

Some of the work is routine because it needs to be. Legionella checks, emergency lighting tests, racking inspections and safety checks might not sound glamorous, but they are important and need to be completed properly.

You’ll also be working in a large, busy warehouse environment, so there will be plenty of walking around the site, practical jobs to tackle and occasions when an unexpected repair changes your plans for the day.

There may also be occasional weekend working and some travel between operational sites.

If you like variety, enjoy practical maintenance and get satisfaction from keeping a workplace safe, organised and running properly, that will probably suit you just fine.
