Overview

This fixed term role will work alongside the Breast Services Manager and clinical team to develop and progress the long term sustainability plan for the trust Breast Services, building on a recently completed 'Fragile Services Review'.

The successful candidate will be required to work at pace given the short term nature of funding for the role to interpret the outputs from the recent review, and work with the service as a whole to plan and implement change increasing sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and co-ordinate internal change activity within the Breast Unit, focused on both symptomatic and screening pathways, to realise improvements in quality, patient experience and service sustainability.
  • Initially focus on the outputs from a 2026 Fragile Service Review but also incorporate recommendations from a March 2026 Breast Screening QA visit.
  • Develop as part of the project an action plan for submission to the Screening QA team outlining actions against key required service improvements with achievable and affordable timelines.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle from initiation through to implementation and closure.
  • Develop and maintain robust project documentation including project plans, business cases, risk registers, action logs and highlight reports.
  • Ensure effective project governance is in place including clear decision-making structures, escalation routes and assurance processes.
  • Work closely with clinical, operational, corporate and senior leadership teams to plan and deliver change effectively.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement activities including workshops and working groups to ensure alignment and buy in.
  • Support where required the development and implementation of improved policies, procedures and clinical governance frameworks.
  • Coordinate and support change management activities including communication plans, staff engagement and implementation support.
  • This role would suit an applicant with existing project management experience, ideally within the NHS, who has the confidence to lead this change programme within a complex multidisciplinary setting.
  • Priority will be given to colleagues identified as at risk through the Trust's redeployment process.
Qualifications

This section reflects the candidate requirements and suitability described in the role: a project management background is preferred, ideally within the NHS, with the ability to lead changes in a complex multidisciplinary setting.
