About the opportunity:
We are acting as the internal recruitment partner for our client, a long‑established, user‑led disability charity that has been supporting local people with physical disabilities for more than three decades.
We are seeking an inspiring and values driven Chief Executive Officer to lead its next phase of development. The organisation is dedicated to removing barriers, promoting independence, and championing equality and inclusion for disabled people across the local community.
About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, collaborative leader who can combine vision with operational oversight, strong financial stewardship, and a deep commitment to the social model of disability.
A key focus of the role will be income generation engaging with existing funders, identifying new funding opportunities, and building long term financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic leadership - Drive the delivery of the organisation's 3‑year strategy, ensuring services remain aligned to community needs and lived experience
Governance & compliance — Support the Board of Trustees and ensure compliance with Charity Commission, safeguarding, data protection, and financial regulations.
Financial sustainability — Lead income generation across grants, contracts, partnerships, and trading; oversee budgets and reserves; and strengthen long‑term resilience.
Operational oversight — Ensure high‑quality service delivery, manage senior staff, and maintain strong systems, performance monitoring, and impact reporting.
Partnerships & external relations — Represent the organisation locally and nationally, influence policy, and build strategic relationships with commissioners, funders, and stakeholders.
Leadership & culture — Foster an inclusive, empowering culture rooted in equality, accessibility, and lived experience.
Requirements:
Proven senior leadership experience
Strong financial management and income generation skills
Excellent partnership‑building and influencing ability
Experience of governance and regulatory compliance
A commitment to the social model of disability and user‑led values
Experience in the disability or voluntary sector (desirable)
You will be resilient, collaborative, and motivated by creating positive change for disabled people
Must live within a commutable distance to the offices in Peterborough In return we are offering:
Annual salary of £44,000, pro rata based on contracted weekly hours
25 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays and an additional Christmas closure period
Hybrid working, typically 1-2 days per week in the office
Flexible working options — full‑time or part‑time (minimum 3 days per week)
Core hours: 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday
Standard pension contribution
