We're seeking an exceptional Service Manager to lead our Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough. You'll work alongside expert clinicians and system partners to deliver safe, effective and innovative community services that improve patient outcomes.

Working with the Clinical Lead and senior leadership team, you'll provide operational leadership across the service, ensuring quality, performance, financial sustainability and an outstanding patient experience. You'll lead service transformation, workforce development, governance and continuous improvement while building strong relationships with commissioners and healthcare partners.

Main duties of the job

We're looking for someone with significant operational management experience in healthcare, a proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering change, managing performance and budgets, and developing high-performing teams.

Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills are essential, along with a degree (or equivalent) in a health or management-related subject.

Job responsibilities

Communication

To be able to communicate effectively on a range of issues (from simple and highly complex) to both clients and staff in either verbal or written formats in one-to-one meetings or groups.

Attending meetings and representing the service internally, externally and in multi-agency settings.

To actively participate in management meetings, both business and clinical governance.

To ensure all staff within the service are actively engaged in shaping and influencing the future of the service.

Maintain excellent communications with external agencies.

To be able to represent the service and engage effectively in strategic discussions to influence and inform commissioning decisions and pathway changes.

Prepare reports and/or presentations when necessary.

Budgetary Responsibility

Manage the service budget to achieve all financial targets.

Lead in budget planning and setting for the service.

Be an authorised signatory.

Interpret monthly budget reports and analyse and report any discrepancies.

Ensure full cost recovery in service development and deliver cost improvement programmes and savings as required to engage in wider strategic planning events to consider future quality; innovation; productivity and preventive plan to build into longterm financial planning and Trust business plans.

People Management / Teaching and Supervision

To work in partnership with the Clinical Lead across workforce planning and service transformation.

Ensure all staff are aware of their role and responsibilities, dealing with Human Resource performance.

Enable staff to develop with the changing needs of the service.

Ensure all staff (including students, temporary, part time nursing staff and junior members of the multidisciplinary clinical teams) acquire appropriate skills and knowledge and are supported and supervised to deliver competent and timely patient care.

Initiate and participate in education and development programmes and ensure clinical supervision is in place for all staff within the service.

Actively manage staff appraisal/performance, PDP and recruitment processes, as per EEC policies.

Develop and monitor orientation and induction programmes specific and relevant to the clinical area for all new staff.

Be responsible for all staff undertaking annual mandatory and CPD training.

Maintain own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal process and objective setting.

Research & Development Activity

To have oversight of the service audit plan in conjunction with the clinical lead.

To have oversight of research studies being conducted within the service, in conjunction with the clinical lead and Trust R&D team.
